• Lung function testSpirometer devices are used to assess the pulmonary functioning in form of how long the lung can hold, take in and move out the air (less air in – restrictive type; less air out- obstructive type of lung disease). It is helpful in assessment of the ongoing treatment and in grading the seriousness the disease for Hypersensitivity pneumonitis Diagnosis. It helps in characterization of physiological impairment and knowing diffusion capacity for carbon monoxide in cases with lung fibrosis.

• HRCT Scan of the chest for Hypersensitivity pneumonitis Diagnosis– is carried out to study more minute changes in the lung parenchyma like ground glass opacities, centrilobular nodules, mosaic attention- air trapping or shows head cheese sign. It also gives a better picture of muscle, other organs, bones and fat.

• Serum Precipitins individuals with high levels of exposure to allergens have shown IgG antibodies.

• Bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar lavage-shows lymphocytosis however in smokers there is lower level of lymphocytosis. The CD4+/CD8+ ratio is <1.

• Lung Biopsy–done when non-invasive tests are inconclusive. Findings show non-necrotizing granulomas , lymphocytic alveolitis which are patchy in distributions, bronchiolitis with organizing exudates and fibrotic changes with areas showing honeycombing in advanced stages.
