What is the treatment for dry eye?

After performing tests, if your doctor concludes that you are suffering from a dry eye, he/she will begin your treatment. The cause of your dry eye will most likely lay down the grounds for your dry eye treatments. Some of the ways to treat a dry eye as follows:

Artificial tears: for mild cases of dry eyes, your doctor might prescribe you a tear supplement, which will help the tear film function and protect the eye properly. However, artificial tears alone might not be sufficient.

Conserving tears: storing natural tears in the eyes longer can improve the function of the tear film. Tears can be stored by blocking the tear ducts with a silicone plug that can be removed. It can also be permanently blocked through surgery.

Eye drops: certain eye drops can be used to reduce the irritation and itching, which causes dry eye.

Anti-inflammation drugs: in case of inflammation on the eyelids and some cases, the surface of the eye, the doctor will prescribe some antibiotics. Such inflammation also increases the symptoms of dry eye.

Warm compresses: warm compressions around the eyes help reduce inflammation around the eyelids that cause the oils to be released. Blocked eyelids hold a lot of eye debris. These compresses help clear this debris and restore the release of oils.

Maintaining good eyelid health.

Treating any disease/deficiency that causes dry eye: dry eye can often be caused by underlying health issues, such as vitamin A deficiency and other diseases. It is crucial that you get these treated.
